Capital of the Vaucluse and the Côtes du Rhône, Avignon has a fascinating history. It was the papal seat -- not Rome! -- for a few decades back in the 1300s and has the beautiful architecture (and UNESCO World Heritage label!) to prove it. Nowadays it's a vibrant, bite-sized city full of art, culture and culinary delights. From medieval streets and private mansions from the Renaissance, it’s a marvel to wander through the winding lanes and enticing squares. On the 26th, depart Paris on the high-speed train (TGV) to beautiful Avignon. The hotel is a ten minute taxi ride from the TGV station and a five minute walk to the Palais des Papes, the town’s main square. Also included is a train ticket booked for October 3rd for your return to Paris. (Let us know if you need help booking a hotel for Paris on either end of your trip!)Just a few minutes from the famous Pont and Palais des Papes, we'll stay in a high end 4-star hotel in Avignon. Many rooms offer views of the courtyard of the cloister, onto the private garden and, even more originally, our guests are invited to take an unusual chapel walk to access their rooms. Look upwards and admire the magnificent dome!(Please note this is an add-on experience, prior to the start of the retreat so while you will have a guided tour of Avignon, it is self guided and will not include Duende staff.)

About this trip

Thank you for organizing the recent women’s retreat in Tuscany. The activities were amazing, transfers excellent, and the excursions and sightseeing very interesting. However, the accommodation was  rustic and of a much lower standard than the exceptional experience I had with you in Cortona in July. The beds were clean but one allocated towel for the week is not acceptable. There was no assistance available for any issues at the accomodation and the fridges were poorly stocked. The “upgrade” to the cottage was appreciated but the cottage was poorly stocked with essential items. The place generally in poor condition. The food at the accomodation was of a much lower standard than expected. All fridges at the very least should have been stocked with water, ice & fruit. Given the outstanding five-star experience in July, this second trip felt disappointing in comparison. My  booking was based on that incredible experience, so this contrast was quite noticeable. I referred my friend expecting the same high standard which Duende provided on 2 previous occasions.

This was a FABULOUS trip!  I feel in LOVE with Dijon!  So fun, warm and rich with history AND delicious food and breathtaking landscapes.  I would certainly travel with this group again!!! Highest recommendation!

We had a wonderful time!! We loved all of the tours, outings and activities. Lovely accommodations. Tour guide was AMAZING!! Everything went smoothly and we were so well taken care of!!!

Our five days in Dijon with Duende Retreats were absolutely unforgettable! Regina planned every detail perfectly, from the private wine tastings and scenic bike ride through the vineyards to the hands-on cooking class and exquisite dinners. Our guide, Agathe, was simply the best — knowledgeable, warm, and fun. As someone with celiac disease, I felt completely cared for. Truly a dream experience in Burgundy!

Another wonderful week with Kalin and Regina. I absolutely love these week-long escapes! Regina takes care of every single detail, so her guests simply have to enjoy the sites. Regina does a great job of planning tours, beautiful lunches in breath-taking venues, with plenty of shopping time! Can't wait to pack my bags for the next trip!

Regina makes it more than just a trip! It’s an adventure for the senses, it’s connecting with other wonderful women, and most of all it’s remembering who you are and what you’re capable of. I see, taste and experience beautiful things every time I’m with Duende Retreats and the South of France was no exception. It fills my cup and leaves me wanting more all at the same time. This is living!

I adore Amanda and Duende Retreats!  Amanda is so authentic and put together such an amazing trip with some fabulous women!  Our accommodations were so incredibly charming and the details of the trip were so unique and well planned. I LOVED it and can't wait to go on another trip!  

Lovely locations. Well curated. Friendly and competent guidance. Ability to quickly pivot if something unexpected happens. Attentive to each person on trip. Seem to genuinely enjoy what they do.

This was my first solo trip after the loss of my husband. I knew the destination sounded amazing, but I did not know that the views and the company could not be matched! This was a much needed week of restoration, and a reminder to live your life. Life can require you to carry so much each day, but for this one week, we carried each other. 
So pleasantly surprised by this experience. You can enjoy free time, or follow the itinerary. Once you see how much thought, and detail Regina puts into each day of the retreat, you won’t want to miss a minute.  Take the trip!

The difference in this Duende Retreat and my first retreat is that with the South of France trip I knew half of the group.  On this trip we tended to separate into our 2 groups at meal times or in vans but I don't know that that was a bad thing.  On the last morning of tours, I did end up on the van with the guests I didn't know is well and it was lovely getting to know them except for some political expressions that I wish hadn't come up.  I just kept quiet and enjoyed the scenery.  
Because we were not at a villa with a gathering spot, as a single traveller, I would have liked to have had a place to hangout and visit , maybe with water bottles or soda.  I do suggest having drinking water more accessible - even if it's for purchase. 
The meals were all superb! I especially enjoyed the lunch at Eze and the lunch on the Lerins Island after the wine tour.  I would have added a stop at a French Bakery as I got home and realized  I hadn't had a macaroon! 
Tour favorites were Eze, Lerin Islands, Nice, & the Rothschild Villa. For Monaco and Cannes it would be nice to offer a walking tour option for those wanting some history instead of shopping.  
Agathe and Amanda were both attentive and delightful tour leaders.  It was a pleasure getting to know them both.  That being said, Regina was missed, as she is the heart and soul of Duende Retreats.  
I don't know when I click "submit review" if there will be more questions or if I will be ending my survey here.  If that is the case, thank you for curating a lovely experience on the French Riviera.  I know that France is somewhere I'm not finished with and hope to come back one day!

Another fabulous trip with Duende Retreats!  Regina never disappoints when curating a retreat.  From arrival to departure she and her team take care of every tiny detail.  The accomadations at Cagnes-sur-Mer were charming and the daily planned trips were so much fun. I am so glad I chose the add-on to Saint Tropez - such a lovely city! I haven't figured out the magic that happens on one of these trips, but the friendships that are made and the joys shared are so genuine.  I guess that's part of the "duende"!  To come home with such memories and friendships definitely has me counting my blessings. I am so addicted to Duende trips!
